The Fall Guy follows stuntman Colt Seavers (played by Lee Majors) who works as a bounty hunter on the side. In the first episode, "Pilot, Part 1," we are introduced to Seavers as he performs a daring stunt for a movie. However, when he goes to collect his payment, he finds out that the film company has filed for bankruptcy and he won't be receiving his paycheck. This sets the tone for Seavers' financial situation - he's struggling to make ends meet and is always on the lookout for a job.
Seavers receives a call from his cousin, Howie Munson (played by Douglas Barr), who tells him that he knows of a bounty that Seavers could collect. Howie works as a mechanic and had just fixed the fugitive's car. Seavers agrees to take the job and heads to the address provided. When he arrives, he finds out that the fugitive, a wealthy businessman named Harold Sussex (played by Robert Loggia), is actually expecting him. Sussex offers Seavers $10,000 to forgo the bounty and instead act as his bodyguard for two weeks.
Seavers is hesitant but ultimately accepts the offer. As they're leaving the property, Seavers and Sussex are ambushed by a group of men. Seavers takes them down and Sussex reveals that they are part of a group who is trying to kill him. Seavers starts to realize that this job may be more dangerous than he originally thought.
Meanwhile, we are introduced to a few of Seavers' acquaintances - Jody Banks (played by Heather Thomas), a fellow stuntwoman who has feelings for Seavers, and Samantha "Big Jack" Jack (played by Jo Ann Pflug), the owner of a bail bond business who often hires Seavers for his bounty hunting skills. We also learn a bit more about Seavers' backstory - he used to have a wife and child but they divorced due to his dangerous stunt work.
As Seavers continues to act as Sussex's bodyguard, he starts to uncover the truth behind the attempts on Sussex's life. He also clashes with Sussex's daughter, Jennifer (played by Lisa Hartman), who doesn't trust him and believes that he's using her father for his own gain. Seavers and Sussex also have their own disagreements - Seavers questions Sussex's shady business practices and Sussex has a hard time trusting Seavers due to his line of work.
The episode ends with Seavers attempting to protect Sussex from another assassination attempt. He manages to stop the attackers, but not before Sussex is shot in the shoulder. As Seavers tends to Sussex's wound, he realizes that he may have gotten himself in deeper than he originally thought.
Overall, "Pilot, Part 1" sets up the premise of the show - Seavers as a stuntman/bounty hunter who often takes on dangerous jobs to make ends meet. The introduction of the Sussex case adds an element of danger and intrigue to the episode, and the various relationships between the characters are interesting to watch. The episode ends on a cliffhanger, leaving viewers wondering how Seavers will navigate the rest of the case and whether he'll come out unscathed.
