Set in the late 1800s, The English Game is a six-part miniseries that delves into the history of football and its impact on society. The second episode of the series, aptly named Episode 2, takes us deeper into the early days of football as we follow the characters through the ups and downs of the sport.

The episode begins with Fergus Suter and Jimmy Love, two of the show's main protagonists, struggling to adjust to life in Victorian England. As two Scottish footballers, they find it difficult to break into the ranks of English football, which is dominated by the upper classes. However, their talent on the field eventually starts to earn them some respect.

Meanwhile, Arthur Kinnaird, the captain of the Old Etonians football club, is facing his own set of challenges. His team, which has always dominated the sport, is struggling to keep up with the new competition. In an effort to regain their edge, Kinnaird brings in a new coach, the legendary footballer N.L. Jackson.

As the Old Etonians start to improve under Jackson's guidance, tensions rise between Kinnaird and his fellow club members. They don't like the fact that an outsider is coming in and changing the way they play. Kinnaird, on the other hand, knows that they need to adapt if they want to stay on top.

The conflict between the Old Etonians and N.L. Jackson comes to a head when the coach brings in several new players to the team, including Fergus Suter and Jimmy Love. The Old Etonians are disgusted by the idea of playing alongside working-class players, and Kinnaird's leadership is questioned.

However, as the game between the Old Etonians and Darwen FC approaches, it becomes clear that the Old Etonians need all the help they can get. Darwen FC, a team made up entirely of Scottish and Welsh working-class players, is proving to be a formidable opponent. The Old Etonians are in danger of losing their crown, and Kinnaird is willing to do whatever it takes to win.

The episode concludes with the game between the Old Etonians and Darwen FC. It's a tense match, with both teams playing their hearts out. Fergus Suter proves to be a valuable asset to the Old Etonians, scoring a crucial goal that helps them clinch the victory.

Overall, Episode 2 of The English Game is a compelling continuation of the miniseries. It explores the themes of class, race, and identity that are central to the show, and sets the stage for even more drama and intrigue to come.
