The Electric Company (Classic) season 1 episode 3 titled "13" is a fun and educational show for children that aims to improve their reading skills. In this episode, we see the Electric Company gang trying to help their friend Harvey get the number 13 out of his head. He's so obsessed with the number, he can't focus on anything else. The team comes up with creative ways to distract Harvey and make him forget about 13.

At the beginning of the episode, Harvey is seen walking around with a giant 13-shaped balloon and counting everything in 13s. He even tries to order a baker's dozen of hot dogs (which is 13, in case you didn't know!). Even though his friends try to reason with him, Harvey refuses to see anything beyond the number 13.

To help their friend, the Electric Company decides to stage an intervention. They bring Harvey to their headquarters and explain to him that there are many other numbers out there to focus on and that it's important to have a diverse set of interests. They show him different objects around the room and have him count them in various ways, adding and subtracting, so that he can get a better sense of how all numbers are related.

Meanwhile, another member of the team is having her own number problem. Jessica and Danny are trying to write a new song but can't seem to agree on how to count the beat. Jessica is convinced that the song should be written in 3/4 time, while Danny thinks it should be in 4/4 time. They decide to have a dance-off to settle the argument, with Harvey serving as the judge.

Throughout the episode, we see the Electric Company using different strategies to help kids learn how to read. They use visuals, word play, and music to teach phonics and vocabulary in a fun and engaging way. For example, they sing a song about words that rhyme with "cat" and use puppets to show different examples. They also use visuals to help kids understand compound words, breaking them down into their individual parts.

In the end, the Electric Company is successful in helping Harvey overcome his obsession with the number 13. He learns to appreciate all numbers and even helps Danny and Jessica find a new way to count their song. With its catchy songs, colorful visuals, and engaging characters, The Electric Company (Classic) is a great show for kids who are just learning to read. By using entertaining and interactive methods, the show manages to make learning fun and engaging, ensuring that young viewers will be excited to keep watching and learning.
