The episode begins with the Electric Company finding a strange message written in chalk on the sidewalk. The message reads "297, but it's not what it seems." The Electric Company debates what the message could mean, but they cannot come up with any answers.
Meanwhile, the Pranksters are causing chaos all over the neighborhood. They are throwing water balloons from rooftops, gluing park benches to the ground, and scaring people with fake spiders. The Electric Company decides that they need to put a stop to the Pranksters' antics. They split up into groups and begin to investigate the Pranksters' actions.
Lisa and Hector follow a group of Pranksters to a park where they are setting up a tent. They overhear the Pranksters talking about the number 297 and decide to investigate further. Manny and Danny go to the library to research the number 297, but they cannot find anything relevant. Meanwhile, Jessica and Jules follow a trail of water balloons to a rooftop where they confront the Pranksters. The Pranksters tell them that they have hidden something in the neighborhood and that the number 297 is the key to finding it.
The Electric Company realizes that the Pranksters are trying to lead them on a scavenger hunt. They work together to search the neighborhood for clues. Danny and Hector find a clue on a stop sign that leads them to a traffic light. Lisa and Jules find a clue on a mailbox that leads them to a fire hydrant. Jessica and Manny find a clue on a tree that leads them to a park bench.
Finally, the Electric Company puts together all of the clues and realizes that the Pranksters have hidden something on the roof of the school. They rush to the school and climb up to the roof where they find a giant banner with the number 297 written on it. Underneath the banner, they find a large box filled with prizes. The Pranksters reveal themselves and congratulate the Electric Company on solving the mystery.
The Pranksters explain that they wanted to challenge the Electric Company in a friendly way and show them that there is more to life than just solving problems. The Electric Company admits that they had fun on the scavenger hunt and that they appreciate the Pranksters' efforts to bring some lightheartedness to the neighborhood.
In the end, the Electric Company and the Pranksters join forces to clean up the neighborhood and make it a better place for everyone.
