Drew Gets Motivated is the twenty-first episode of the first season of The Drew Carey Show. In this episode, Drew's boss Nigel is furious with him for letting a major account slip through his fingers. Nigel tells Drew that he needs to turn his performance around or risk losing his job.
Feeling defeated, Drew turns to his friends for advice and motivation. However, he quickly realizes that they are all unmotivated and lazy, which only adds to his frustration. In an attempt to find inspiration, Drew attends a motivational seminar hosted by a charismatic speaker named Lyle.
Lyle's high-energy performance has Drew feeling invigorated and ready to tackle the challenges ahead. He buys into Lyle's self-help program and becomes obsessed with the idea of "maximizing his potential." Drew's new attitude and behavior begin to annoy his friends and coworkers, who think he has become a little too intense and preachy.
Meanwhile, Drew's boss Nigel becomes intrigued by Drew's transformation and begins to take notice of his improved work ethic. However, Drew's commitment to Lyle's program begins to overshadow his job responsibilities, causing Nigel to become concerned.
The episode follows Drew's journey as he tries to balance his newfound motivation with his work obligations and relationships with his friends and coworkers. Ultimately, Drew learns that true motivation and success come from within and not from a self-help program or a motivational speaker.
