The Dead Files is a television series that premiered back in 2011. The show features a pair of investigators with different "abilities": Steve DiSchiavi, a retired homicide detective, and Amy Allan, a medium who can communicate with the dead. The two collaborate to uncover the secrets of haunted locations throughout America. Season 8 episode 3 is titled No Vacancy.
In this episode, the investigators head to Catlettsburg, Kentucky, where they are called in to investigate paranormal activity at the Dawkins Hotel. The hotel is a historic building that has been abandoned for years, and it's become a popular spot for ghost hunters and thrill-seekers. However, the current owner is looking to renovate the building and turn it into a bed and breakfast. But before he can do that, he needs to know exactly what he's dealing with.
The owner is skeptical about the supernatural and doesn't believe in ghosts, but he's been experiencing strange things in the hotel that he can't explain. He's heard unexplained noises, seen shadow figures moving around, and felt an overall sense of unease. He's had several contractors quit on him due to the strange occurrences they experienced while working at the hotel. The owner is at his wit's end and hopes the investigators can shed some light on the situation.
As usual, Steve and Amy start the investigation by conducting separate walkthroughs of the hotel. Steve uses his detective skills to research the building's history and speak to any locals who might have information about its past. Meanwhile, Amy communicates with the spirits that inhabit the hotel to try to learn why they are there and what they want.
One interesting thing they discover is that the Dawkins Hotel was once a popular spot for local gangsters to conduct their illicit business back in the 1920s. Steve uncovers a connection between the hotel and a notorious gangster who was assassinated in the area. His investigation leads him to a local historian who tells him a story about a gruesome murder that occurred at the hotel. Steve believes this could be why the hotel is haunted, and he shares his findings with Amy.
During her walkthrough, Amy communicates with several spirits in the hotel. She encounters a spirit she believes to be that of the gangster who was assassinated. She also communicates with a little girl who lived in the hotel with her family and may have died there. Amy feels that the little girl's spirit is confused and isn't sure how she ended up in the hotel. Amy also picks up on negative energy coming from a specific room in the hotel and believes there may be a demonic presence in the room.
After Steve and Amy complete their investigations, they meet with the hotel owner to share their findings. Steve reveals the history of the hotel and how it was once a hot spot for gangsters. He also shares details about the gruesome murder that took place there. Amy tells the owner about the spirits she encountered, including the little girl and the possible demonic presence.
The owner is shocked by the revelations but is still skeptical about the paranormal. Steve and Amy try to offer some solutions to help the owner deal with the activity in the hotel. They advise him to bring in a psychic medium to try to communicate with the spirits and help them move on. They also recommend the owner perform a cleansing of the hotel to clear out any negative energy that might be lingering.
In conclusion, The Dead Files episode No Vacancy is an intriguing investigation of a historic hotel with a violent past. The episode does a great job of blending history with the paranormal, making it a fascinating watch for fans of both genres. Steve and Amy's investigation, combined with some of the revelations they uncover, make for a compelling episode that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
