As the American political landscape continues to shift and evolve, the documentary series The Circus provides a behind-the-scenes look at the events and personalities shaping the country's future. In season 7 episode 8, entitled "Tip of the Spear," the show takes a look at the ways in which progressive activists are pushing back against conservative policies and politicians.
At the center of the episode is the Parkland shooting survivor, David Hogg, who has emerged as a vocal advocate for gun control and activism among youth. Hogg is shown speaking at a rally in support of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School students who lost their lives in the mass shooting, as well as attending meetings with political leaders to discuss gun reform.
As the episode progresses, The Circus turns its attention to the Women's March, a series of protests across the country in support of women's rights and opposition to President Trump's policies. The hosts of the show follow the organizers and participants as they prepare for the event, speaking with women who have been inspired by the movement and feel a need to speak out against the Trump administration.
The episode also takes a look at conservative voices in the media, such as Fox News host Sean Hannity, who has become a vocal supporter of President Trump and frequently criticizes the mainstream media for what he sees as biased coverage. The Circus takes a closer look at Hannity's role in shaping public opinion and the ways in which his show resonates with conservative viewers.
Throughout the episode, The Circus explores the various strands of activism and protest in America today, from gun control advocates to women's rights activists and beyond. As the country faces both internal and external challenges, from political polarization to threats of terrorism, the show provides a lens through which viewers can better understand the complex and often conflicting forces at work.
