Carrie has officially started her internship at Interview magazine, but she quickly realizes that she is not going to be writing glamorous articles anytime soon. Instead, she is tasked with screening all of the products that are sent to the magazine in hopes of being featured in their pages. Carrie is disappointed at first, but quickly becomes enthralled with the world of beauty and fashion. She even turns her apartment into a mini beauty laboratory, testing all of the various products that come through her office.
In an effort to liven up her internship, Carrie goes against the wishes of her boss and ups the ante on the screening process. She decides to bring in her own editorial eye and take photos of the products so that they can be presented in a more visually appealing way. Carrie's boss is not happy with this change in protocol, but ultimately decides to run with it and publish the photos.
Carrie's internship at Interview is not the only thing on her mind, however. She is also trying to navigate her new relationship with Sebastian, who seems to be pulling away from her. Carrie turns to her friends for advice, but they are all dealing with their own issues. Walt is struggling with his sexual identity and Maggie is dealing with her parents' divorce.
As Carrie continues to test out beauty products, she realizes that they can be used as a means of empowerment. She uses her newfound confidence to approach Sebastian and confront him about their relationship. She also stands up to her boss and pushes for more creative input in her work.
In the end, Carrie's hard work pays off and she is given her own column in Interview to write about beauty products. She also makes up with Sebastian and they continue their relationship. The episode ends on a hopeful note, with Carrie realizing that she can use her creative talents to make a difference in the world of beauty and fashion.
