In the second season of The Brittas Empire, Episode 3 titled "An Inspector Calls," the misadventures of Gordon Brittas, the bumbling, self-important manager of Whitbury New Town Leisure Centre continue.
The episode revolves around Brittas' obsession with impressing the visiting inspector, who will assess the sports center's performance and the management's competence. Brittas overreacts and becomes hyper-vigilant in his preparations. Meanwhile, every one of his staff seems to be at odds with one another, with petty squabbles escalating to full-blown dramas. A simple missing wallet turns into a criminal investigation with Brittas unhelpfully providing evidence that only incriminates his staff.
Tensions rise as the stressed-out staff prepares for the inspector's arrival; the receptionist Laura (played by Julia St. John) attempts to hold office manager Carole (Harriet Thorpe) accountable for her slackness, while fitness instructor Gavin (Tim Marriott) has his eyes set on new hire, Linda (Jill Greenacre). Meanwhile, Brittas is constantly breathing down the necks of his subordinates, trying to micromanage every detail of their work.
When the inspector eventually arrives, Brittas appears to have everything under control, from the center's impeccable cleanliness to its meticulously scheduled activities. However, all goes wrong when the inspector stumbles upon a body in the office storeroom, derailing the sports centre's chances of a high assessment ranking and causing chaos.
With their future in the balance, can the staff come together and save the sports center's reputation? Or will Brittas' mismanagement and ineptitude lead to their downfall? You'll have to watch to find out!
Overall, "An Inspector Calls" is a fast-paced and unpredictable episode that highlights the comical ineptitude of Gordon Brittas and the hilarious situations that his staff must navigate. The episode is an excellent example of the show's signature style of humor, which is ironic, deadpan and cringe-worthy yet never fails to make audiences laugh.
