In The Brittas Empire season 2 episode 1 titled "Back from the Dead," we see Gordon Brittas, the bumbling manager of the fictional leisure center, Whitbury New Town Leisure Centre, return to work after being presumed dead for several months. The episode opens with the staff of the leisure center attending a memorial service for Brittas, who was believed to have drowned while on a conference in Brussels.
However, to everyone's surprise, Brittas interrupts the service, revealing that he had in fact, been stranded on a deserted island for several months. He also announces that he has written a book about his experience, titled "Survivor Brittas."
As Brittas attempts to settle back into his role as manager, the staff struggle to come to terms with his return, particularly his long-suffering assistant, Laura. She had finally found some peace in the office without Brittas's incessant meddling. She was now back to dealing with his constant incompetence and absurdity.
Meanwhile, Brittas begins launching various new initiatives, much to the chagrin of his colleagues. For example, he insists that a giant statue of himself be erected in front of the leisure center, and he also plans to introduce a jungle-themed "Survivor" party.
Despite the chaos that Brittas's return brings, there is a sense of relief felt by everyone at the leisure center. The show's recurring theme of family-like camaraderie is explored as it becomes clear that the leisure center's staff, despite their frustrations with Brittas, have formed a close-knit bond with each other.
As the episode progresses, Brittas continues to make missteps, including purging the staff's lockers, believing that they were hoarding contraband items. However, the staff eventually pull together to confront Brittas and demand that he change his ways.
This episode of The Brittas Empire sets the stage for the wacky hijinks and shenanigans that are to follow in the rest of the season. As always, Chris Barrie's portrayal of Brittas is a highlight of the show, and the episode is full of laughs and levity. Overall, "Back from the Dead" is an entertaining episode that fans of the series are sure to enjoy.
