The Bridge is a crime thriller series set on the border between Denmark and Sweden. It follows the investigation of murders that occur on the bridge that connects the two countries. Season 2 episode 1, named Yankee, starts off with a shocking discovery of a woman’s body at a construction site in Malmö, Sweden. The victim is an American woman, and it is unclear why she was in Sweden or what the motive for her murder might have been.
The Swedish detective Saga Norén (Sofia Helin), who was a prominent character in the first season, is called to investigate the crime scene. She is joined by a new Danish partner, Henrik Sabroe (Thure Lindhardt). The two have an uneasy relationship, as Henrik is dealing with personal issues that are affecting his work.
Meanwhile, the police in Denmark are also investigating the case. Martin Rohde (Kim Bodnia), who was Saga’s partner in the first season, has been arrested for the murder of the journalist. His colleagues are struggling to come to terms with his alleged crime, while still trying to solve the murder of the American woman.
As Saga and Henrik delve deeper into the case, they discover that the victim had ties to a controversial group of American scientists who were working on a secret project in Sweden. The detectives are led to a mysterious figure known only as “Yankee,” who seems to be involved in the murder. They quickly realize that the case is much more complicated than they initially thought, and that they are dealing with a dangerous adversary.
The episode is full of tension as the detectives work to unravel the mystery surrounding the murder. The writing is strong, and the acting is excellent. Sofia Helin does an outstanding job as Saga Norén, and Thure Lindhardt brings a new layer of depth to the show as her troubled new partner.
One of the strengths of The Bridge is its portrayal of the two countries – Denmark and Sweden – and how their different cultures and police systems clash at times. This is highlighted in this episode as Saga and Henrik struggle to work together despite their different backgrounds.
Overall, Yankee is a gripping start to season 2 of The Bridge. It sets up a complex and compelling story that promises to be even more exciting than the first season. The show continues to showcase some of the best writing and acting in television today, and it is a must-watch for fans of crime thrillers.
