He decides that the kids aren’t ready for the responsibility of taking care of a dog, and he and Carol tell the kids that they are not getting a dog. The kids are devastated, but they realize that their parents were right and that they weren’t ready for a dog.

Despite the disappointment, the family decides to make the best of the situation. They take the money that they would have spent on a dog and use it to go on a fun outing together. They end up having a great time, and they realize that they don’t need a dog to be happy.
