In The Borgias season 1 episode 6, titled "The French King," tensions between France and Rome are at an all-time high as King Charles VIII seeks to invade Italy and claim Naples as his own. Pope Alexander VI, desperate to avoid war, sends his son Cesare to France to negotiate a peace treaty.
Cesare's mission is complicated by the fact that he is still reeling from the death of his beloved Lucrezia, who was poisoned by his own servant after he rejected her. He is also still battling his own conflicting desires: to serve the Church and his father, or to pursue his own ambitions for power.
Meanwhile, back in Rome, Alexander's daughter Lucrezia must navigate the tricky politics of marriage as she is courted by a powerful prince. But her heart still aches for Cesare, and she fears she will never find true happiness.
As Cesare negotiates with the French, he discovers a shocking secret about his father's past that threatens to destroy their relationship. And when a plot to assassinate the Pope is uncovered, he must risk everything to save his family and his beloved Rome from destruction.
