The Boondocks is an American adult animated sitcom that premiered on November 6, 2005, on Adult Swim. The show is based on the comic strip of the same name written and illustrated by Aaron McGruder. Set in the fictional suburb of Woodcrest, the show follows the lives of the Freeman family, consisting of two brothers, Huey and Riley, and their granddad, Robert.
In season 1, episode 5, titled "A Date With The Health Inspector," the city's health inspector threatens to shut down the local fried chicken restaurant after discovering the numerous health code violations. Granddad decides to have a date with the inspector to convince her to overlook the infractions and save the restaurant from closure.
As the family helps Granddad prepare for his date, Riley and Huey notice that the restaurant's employees are not wearing gloves while preparing the food and there are roaches crawling all over the kitchen. Riley suggests that they warn the inspector, but Granddad ignores them, insisting that the inspector will be distracted by his charm.
During the date, Granddad takes the Inspector to a fancy restaurant to impress her, but things take a turn for the worse when the inspector brings up the health code violations. Granddad panics and tries to change the subject, but the inspector is persistent. As they leave the restaurant, the inspector gets a call informing her that there is a rat problem at the fried chicken restaurant. She rushes over to investigate, much to Granddad's horror.
When the inspector arrives at the restaurant, she finds that the employees have been replaced by fake mannequins to make it seem like everything is clean and under control. However, the roaches and rats are still present. The inspector is outraged and orders the restaurant to close down immediately.
In the end, Huey and Riley try to cheer up Granddad by taking him to a soul food restaurant they love, but it turns out to be filthy and unsanitary. Granddad realizes that maybe the health inspector was right to shut down the fried chicken restaurant.
Overall, "A Date With The Health Inspector" is a hilarious episode that highlights the importance of health code violations and the consequences of ignoring them. The episode also showcases the various personalities of the Freeman family and their unique ways of dealing with problems.
