Bob Newhart plays a psychologist with a unique way of dealing with his patients' problems. In season 4, episode 15, Bob Newhart needs to have his tonsils out, but unfortunately for him, the procedure is scheduled for Christmas Eve. This means he will be spending the holiday in the hospital.

The episode starts with Bob and his wife Emily (Suzanne Pleshette) preparing for their Christmas party, but Bob's sore throat is getting worse, and he is afraid he won't be able to talk to his patients. When they go to see their doctor, he informs them that Bob needs to have his tonsils removed and that the procedure is scheduled for Christmas Eve. Bob is disappointed as they had planned a Christmas celebration with their friends, but now he won't be able to attend.

At the hospital, Bob meets his roommate, a little boy who also needs to have his tonsils out. The boy is in high spirits and keeps Bob entertained. Bob is surprised to find out that the boy is spending Christmas in the hospital as well because he doesn't have a family. Bob is touched by the boy's story and decides to make Christmas special for him.

Bob's fellow doctors try to cheer him up by bringing in a small Christmas tree and some decorations, but Bob is still not feeling the holiday cheer. Meanwhile, Emily is at home trying to make the best of their canceled party by inviting their neighbors over to celebrate with them. However, without Bob, the party feels empty, and Emily realizes how much she relies on her husband for their social life.

Back at the hospital, Bob tries to distract himself by watching a basketball game on television, but he can't shake the feeling of missing out on Christmas with his loved ones. He starts to feel sorry for himself until he realizes how lucky he is to have a family and friends who love and support him.

Bob decides to make Christmas special for his young roommate by organizing a mini-celebration in their hospital room. He brings in some food from the cafeteria and some decorations, and even manages to find a small gift for the boy. The two of them have a great time celebrating Christmas together.

As the day progresses, Bob's friends and family stop by to visit him in the hospital, bringing more decorations and gifts. Bob is overwhelmed by their love and support, and he realizes that he is not alone on Christmas after all.

At the end of the episode, Bob's surgery is successful, and he is discharged from the hospital, just in time to spend Christmas Day with his loved ones. He realizes that even though he had to spend Christmas Eve in the hospital, it turned out to be a heartwarming and memorable experience.

Overall, the Bob Newhart Show season 4 episode 15 is a heartwarming Christmas story that reminds us of the importance of family, friends, and the true meaning of the holiday season.
