Dr. Bob Hartley, a mild-mannered psychologist, is back with a new episode of "The Bob Newhart Show," season 1 episode 19. This episode, titled "Not With My Sister You Don't," features Bob and his wife Emily dealing with a tricky situation involving Emily's younger sister, Ellen.
Ellen has just broken up with her long-time boyfriend and is feeling down about the whole situation. Bob and Emily try to cheer her up by inviting her to come and stay with them in their apartment for a little while. However, things quickly get complicated when Howard, one of Bob's patients, shows up at the apartment with the intention of wooing Ellen. Howard is a bit of a sleazeball and Bob is not at all happy about the situation.
To make things even worse, Howard is convinced that Bob is actually his best friend, "The Hawk," a pilot who he flew with in the Korean War. Despite Bob's repeated denials, Howard insists on telling Ellen all of his crazy war stories and even convinces her to go out on a date with him.
Bob is beside himself trying to figure out how to get Howard out of their lives and away from Ellen. He even goes so far as to dress up like "The Hawk" and visits Howard at his office in an attempt to scare him off. However, none of his attempts seem to work. Meanwhile, Emily is feeling left out and ignored as Bob focuses all of his attention on the situation with Ellen and Howard.
As the episode progresses, tensions run high and Bob and Emily's marriage is put to the test as they try to navigate this difficult family situation. Will Howard finally listen to reason and leave Ellen alone? Will Bob and Emily be able to find a way to reconcile and move past this rocky period in their relationship?
