Lorna tells him that she was in a terrible accident and lost her memory. She then fell in with a bad crowd who convinced her that Heath was dead and took advantage of her.
Heath agrees to help Lorna, but he is torn between his loyalty to her and his loyalty to his family. He decides to investigate Harry Wade's claims and discovers that he is a notorious con artist who has been targeting wealthy widows. Heath confronts Wade and manages to get the evidence he needs to clear Lorna's name.
However, when Victoria discovers that Lorna is still alive, she is furious with Heath for not telling her the truth. Heath tries to explain that he didn't want to upset her, but Victoria is hurt that he didn't trust her enough to confide in her.
