In The Bible season 1 episode 3, entitled "Homeland - Part 1," the story shifts to focus on the prophet Samuel and his anointing of King Saul. The episode begins with Samuel mourning the loss of Israel's original leader, Judge Eli, who was slain along with his two sons by the Philistines. The Israelites are left without a leader and are in a desperate situation.

Samuel is called by God to find a new leader for Israel and he sets out to anoint a new king. God chooses Saul, a tall and handsome man who is not from a line of royal descent but has been tasked with finding his lost donkeys. Samuel meets Saul and anoints him with oil, proclaiming him as the chosen king of Israel.

Meanwhile, the Philistines continue to threaten Israel. They have a powerful weapon, the Ark of the Covenant, which they have captured from the Israelites. The Ark is a sacred symbol of Israel's covenant with God and the Philistines believe it will give them the power to defeat Israel.

In an attempt to recover the Ark, the Israelites go to battle against the Philistines. However, they are defeated and the Philistines take the Ark back to their own territory. The Israelites are devastated and wonder if they have been abandoned by God.

As Saul continues to settle into his new role as king, he begins to have doubts about his ability to lead Israel. He is hesitant about taking on the Philistines and is unsure of the support of his own people. Saul's advisor, Samuel, tries to reassure him that God is with them but Saul remains uncertain.

The episode ends with Samuel calling for a ceremony to renew Israel's covenant with God. He hopes that by doing so, the Israelites will have renewed faith in God and the strength to face their enemies. However, it remains to be seen if Saul will rise to the challenge and lead Israel to victory over the Philistines.

Overall, "Homeland - Part 1" is a tense and dramatic episode that sets the stage for the conflicts to come. The introduction of Saul adds a new dynamic to the story and raises questions about his ability to lead. The ongoing conflict with the Philistines provides a sense of urgency and the importance of faith and trust in God is emphasized throughout the episode.
