The Beverly Hillbillies season 6 episode 12, titled "The Reserve Program," follows the Clampett family as they plan for a future disaster. Upon hearing about the government's reserve program, which encourages citizens to stockpile necessities in case of emergency, the family decides to do just that.
First, they must figure out what they need and how much of it to buy. Jethro and Granny are put in charge of the task, but quickly become overwhelmed. Meanwhile, Jed enlists the help of Drysdale to purchase a significant amount of gold, in case paper currency becomes worthless.
As the family continues to gather supplies, they realize they need a secure place to store them. With a stroke of luck, they stumble upon an old missile silo that is up for sale. Though it's a bit creepy at first, the family sees great potential and decides to purchase the silo as their reserve program headquarters.
However, not everyone in the family is on board with the idea. Elly May becomes concerned that the reserve program may encourage hoarding and prevent others from accessing necessary supplies during a time of crisis. Ultimately, the family comes to a compromise and decides to share their resources with neighbors in need.
The episode also follows the romantic subplot between Elly May and her boyfriend Dash Riprock. After getting a role in a western movie, Dash becomes caught up in the Hollywood lifestyle and starts to neglect his relationship with Elly May. She becomes frustrated and enlists the help of Granny to bring him back to reality.
Overall, "The Reserve Program" is a lighthearted and amusing episode that showcases the quirky personalities and zany antics of the Clampett family. It highlights the importance of being prepared for the unexpected, while also emphasizing the value of sharing with those in need.
