In The Beverly Hillbillies season 3 episode 11 titled "The Boarder," the Clampett family takes in a boarder named John Masters. John is an Englishman who is visiting Beverly Hills on a business trip and needs a place to stay. The Clampetts are thrilled to have John as their guest, and they go to great lengths to make him feel at home.
As soon as John arrives, Jed and Granny welcome him with open arms, and Elly May is excited to show him her animals. Jethro, however, is suspicious of John, thinking he might be a spy or a thief. Despite Jethro's misgivings, the Clampetts insist on treating John like royalty.
John is grateful for the warm welcome he receives from the Clampetts, but he soon discovers that life in Beverly Hills is not what he expected. He is amazed by the Clampetts' casual attitude toward their wealth and their lack of sophistication. John is also surprised by the Clampetts' manners, especially their table manners, which he finds to be quite odd.
One of the issues that arise during John's stay is his understanding of the Clampett's language and culture. He finds himself in difficult situations due to his lack of understanding of American phrases and idioms. This leads to some hilarious moments, and John's attempts to learn more about American culture from the Clampetts make for great entertainment.
As the days go by, John becomes more and more confused by the Clampetts' way of life. He tries to teach them some English customs, but they don't quite understand. When he suggests they stop bathing in the creek and start using a bathtub instead, they are horrified at the thought of using inside water for bathing.
At the same time, the Clampetts are beginning to see John as a nuisance. He is constantly telling them what to do, and he is always correcting their behavior. Granny is especially fed up with John and his "highfalutin ways." When John suggests that they stop eating with their hands and start using utensils instead, Granny flies into a rage.
Things come to a head when John tries to teach Elly May how to dance. He insists on teaching her the proper way to do the waltz, but she wants to do the hillbilly two-step. John gets frustrated with Elly May's lack of grace and calls her a "barbarian." This sparks a confrontation between John and the rest of the Clampetts, and John decides it's time to find another place to stay.
Despite the conflict between John and the Clampetts, everyone is sad to see him go. They have grown to like him and appreciate his efforts to teach them about England and its culture. As John leaves, the Clampetts bid him farewell, and Jed invites him to come back any time.
Overall, The Beverly Hillbillies season 3 episode 11, "The Boarder," is a fun and entertaining episode that highlights the cultural differences between the Clampetts and John. It's a classic example of how two very different worlds can collide, and how, despite their differences, people can still find common ground.
