Lucy and Ethel are busy with their old hobby of writing novels. However, Ricky and Fred are very skeptical about their success and bet them $50 that they can't write a complete novel in a week's time. Lucy and Ethel not only accept the challenge but also make a bet of their own, to see who sells more novels.
The next day, the girls start to write their own novels, and while Lucy was struggling to come up with a storyline, Ethel's fingers seemed to be flying over the keys of her typewriter. Lucy, feeling somewhat defeated, decides that the environment plays a significant role in her productivity and decides to visit Hemingway's old apartment in Long Island, hoping that it'll spark some inspiration.
Meanwhile, Ethel is writing a captivating love story, and Lucy, who's struggling to come up with an idea, sneaks a peek at Ethel's manuscript. Lucy tells Ethel that her story is dull, and they end up fighting over whose novel is better.
In the end, they decide to each write the same story, and whoever sells the most copies wins the bet. This results in a hilarious sequence of events as Lucy, trying to get into character, accidentally gets drunk and has a run-in with the police.
The episode is filled with the comedic genius of Lucille Ball, and her antics are sure to leave you in stitches. It's a classic example of the show's ability to turn mundane situations into laughter-filled entertainment.
