The Heart of the Jungle is the second episode of the first season of the animated children's television series The Backyardigans. The show features five animal friends who use their imaginations to embark on musical adventures in their backyard.
In this episode, the friends - Pablo the penguin, Uniqua the moose, Tyrone the hippopotamus, Tasha the hippopotamus, and Austin the kangaroo - find themselves in the heart of the jungle. They are all excited to explore the lush green new surroundings that lay ahead of them.
As they journey deeper into the jungle, they hear a distant drumbeat and decide to follow the sound. They come across two small frogs that are playing a frenzied rhythm on their drums. The Backyardigans introduce themselves, and the frogs explain that the king of the jungle has lost his heart and, as a result, has lost his mojo. The Backyardigans are all curious as to what this means, and the frogs tell them that the jungle is in a state of chaos because the king can't lead them.
The five friends decide to help the king by finding his heart and return it to him. They travel through the jungle and face a series of obstacles- from steep hills to muddy swamps. Each obstacle is overcome by working together and singing unique songs that help them overcome the challenge.
Eventually, they stumble upon a clearing where they come across a snake. The snake warns them not to proceed further as the king of the jungle has put a curse on the heart, and anyone that touches it will be turned to stone. However, the Backyardigans are determined to help the king and decide to proceed to the location of the heart.
When they reach the heart, they find out that it's a hidden temple, and the temple is guarded by two fierce guards called the Baboon Brothers. The Backyardigans put their heads together and think of a way to distract the brothers, and it's here where their creativity shines, and they come up with a catchy song to distract the baboons while they sneak past them and find the heart.
The Backyardigans manage to retrieve the heart but are soon caught by the Baboon brothers. The brothers refuse to let them leave the temple until the heart is returned, but the Backyardigans manage to convince them that the heart is cursed, and they need to take it to the king.
With the Baboon Brothers' help, the Backyardigans make their way back to the king and return the heart to him. The king is immensely grateful, and with the heart in place, he regains his mojo and is back to being the king of the jungle.
The episode ends with the Backyardigans waving goodbye to the king as they make their way back home. As they do, they all reflect on the adventure they just had and sing a song, happy to be returning to their backyard and looking forward to new adventures that lay ahead.
