The Avengers season 5 episode 9, titled "The Correct Way to Kill," finds Steed and Emma investigating a series of murders of British agents. The agents are being killed in very specific, expert ways, leading the duo to believe that the assassin is a former KGB operative. The killer's methods are so precise that, at first, no one can even tell that the victims have been murdered.
As Steed and Emma dig deeper into the case, they discover that the assassin has a connection to a scientific institute and begin to suspect that one of the scientists is involved. To crack the case, they go undercover at the institute, posing as a married couple interested in the latest technological advancements.
The couple finds themselves in hot water when they stumble upon an experiment involving mind control. The head of the institute believes that he can create the perfect assassin by manipulating the minds of his subjects. Steed and Emma soon become the target of his experiment and must come up with a plan to escape before they too become puppets of the scientist's evil designs.
Meanwhile, Steed's colleague, John Steed, is also on the trail of the assassin and has discovered that the man behind the murders is a former colleague of his who has gone rogue. John Steed teams up with a Russian agent to try to find his former pal and bring him to justice.
As the two investigations converge, the identity of the assassin is finally revealed, and an intense showdown ensues. Steed and Emma must use all of their skills to bring the killer to justice and put an end to the mind control experiment once and for all.
