Ep 6. The Winged Avenger

In The Avengers season 5 episode 6, titled "The Winged Avenger", we see the return of the "Plumed Avengers". This fictional comic book character, created by renowned author Amos Greenleaf, becomes the subject of real-life danger as someone begins attacking people dressed up as the character.

Emma Peel is dispatched to Greenleaf's estate to investigate the matter, posing as an illustrator who wishes to discuss future projects with the author. Greenleaf, who shows some interest in Peel's work, reveals that his recent inspiration for the Plumed Avenger had been coming from dreams. Not only that, but he claims that the character's villain, the "Scarlet Skull", has somehow started to come to life. He even demonstrates this by pulling the villain's mask out of nowhere.

Meanwhile, Steed is busy trying to protect the latest Plumed Avenger impersonator, only to find that he's arrived too late. The man has already been killed, and Steed is left to examine the body, which has some very strange markings on it.

As the investigation progresses, Peel and Steed discover a few key clues. Though Greenleaf is initially thought to be a suspect, it appears that he may be in danger himself, as he's soon attacked by an unknown assailant. And while examining the markings on the costume, Steed discovers that they may have something to do with a local Egyptian doctor who specializes in markings at a local carnival.

As Peel delves deeper into the mystery on Greenleaf's estate, strange things start happening- books move on their own, a skeleton appears from nowhere, and a doorbell rings repeatedly but no one is there. When a strange figure dressed as the Scarlet Skull attacks Peel, she's forced to fight back in order to protect herself.

The episode takes a number of twists and turns as Peel and Steed try to ascertain the true identity of the Scarlet Skull, and whether the villain is truly coming to life or not. With plenty of action, humor, and intrigue, "The Winged Avenger" is a highly entertaining episode that is sure to keep fans of The Avengers on the edge of their seats from start to finish.

In the end, all is revealed and the case is wrapped up in typical Avengers fashion- with a final showdown that pits Peel and Steed against the true villain. The Plumed Avenger and the Scarlet Skull may have been fictional characters, but in this episode, they certainly came to life in a way that will leave fans talking for years to come.
