The Avengers season 3 episode 9, "The Medicine Men," begins with a series of murders that have taken place in London's financial district. All of the victims have one thing in common; they all worked for a pharmaceutical company called Megawave.
John Steed and Emma Peel are called in to investigate the murders. They begin by visiting Megawave, where they meet the company's founder, Dr. Henge. Dr. Henge tells Steed and Peel that the murders have left the company in turmoil and have caused a decrease in sales. He also mentions that the most recent victim, Dr. Gibson, had been working on a revolutionary new drug before he was killed.
Steed and Peel then visit the site of the most recent murder and notice strange markings on the victim's body. They are told by the coroner that the markings are from a tribal ritual used by the Zambouli tribe in Africa, known for their use of natural remedies. Steed and Peel begin to suspect that the murders are linked to Megawave's new drug and its potential to put natural remedies out of business. They decide to investigate further and visit the Zambouli tribe in Africa.
Upon arriving in Africa, Steed and Peel discover that Megawave has been buying up all the land surrounding the Zambouli tribe's village. They also notice that the village's only doctor, Mama Lualdi, has been performing miracles using natural remedies. Mama Lualdi tells Steed and Peel that Megawave's new drug could put her out of business and destroy the Zambouli tribe's way of life.
Steed and Peel then learn that Megawave has a secret laboratory in Africa, where they are testing the new drug on human subjects. They sneak into the laboratory and discover that the drug is highly addictive and has dangerous side effects. They also find evidence that Dr. Gibson was planning to blow the whistle on Megawave's unethical practices before he was murdered.
Steed and Peel then contact the authorities and orchestrate a raid on the laboratory, which leads to the arrest of Megawave's CEO, Mr. Lemuel. Steed and Peel then return to London, where they confront Dr. Henge about Megawave's unethical practices. Dr. Henge admits to turning a blind eye to Megawave's practices because he wanted to keep his position as the company's founder.
In the end, Dr. Henge is arrested, and Mama Lualdi is able to continue using natural remedies to heal her patients. Steed and Peel reflect on the fact that sometimes, the only way to defeat big business is to stick to what's right and stand up against unethical practices.
