The Avengers season 2 episode 15, entitled "Intercrime," follows the titular group as they crack down on an international crime network. The episode begins with the head of Intercrime, Mr. Sexton, setting up a meeting with an underworld financier named Lasindra. In attendance are representatives of various criminal organizations from around the world, including a drug gang from South America and a diamond smuggler from Africa. Before the meeting can begin, however, a bomb goes off in the hotel where they are all gathered.
Enter John Steed (played by Patrick Macnee) and Emma Peel (played by Diana Rigg), who are called in to investigate the bombing. They quickly discover that the explosion was caused by a bomb planted in a vase by Intercrime. Steed and Peel decide to infiltrate Intercrime in order to dismantle the organization from the inside out. They gain entry to the group by posing as art dealers and presenting themselves to Sexton with a valuable piece of art.
Once inside, Steed and Peel discover that Intercrime is planning something big. They soon learn that Sexton and Lasindra are planning to steal a revolutionary new rocket engine being developed by a British company called Gemini. The engine is capable of propelling a rocket into space with unprecedented speed and efficiency, and has the potential to revolutionize space travel. Intercrime plans to steal the engine and then auction it off to the highest bidder.
Steed and Peel team up with an undercover police officer named Lucas, who has been working to infiltrate Intercrime for months. Together, they hatch a plan to steal the rocket engine before Intercrime can get their hands on it. The plan involves breaking into the Gemini factory disguised as cleaners and then using a crane to lift the engine out of the building and onto a waiting truck.
Of course, things don't go exactly according to plan. Steed, Peel, and Lucas are discovered by Intercrime and engage in a thrilling car chase through the streets of London. The trio manages to evade their pursuers and get away with the rocket engine, but soon realize that they are being followed. They set a trap for their pursuers and engage in a vicious fight, but are ultimately victorious.
The episode ends with Intercrime being dismantled and its leaders arrested. Steed and Peel muse about the future of space travel and what possibilities the new rocket engine might hold. It's a satisfying conclusion to a thrilling episode that showcases some of the best aspects of The Avengers: clever plotting, exciting action sequences, and a touch of whimsy.
