When a pair of traveling musicians stop by Mayberry, Andy and Barney are excited to see them perform. But when the musicians leave town, they accidentally leave behind a guitar case. The next day, Opie and his friend Arnold stumble upon the guitar case and, curious to see what's inside, they open it up. Inside the case, they find a large sum of money and they can't wait to show it off to their friends.
As soon as Andy and Barney find out what the boys have discovered, they are worried that the money is connected to a recent bank robbery. They ask the boys to take them back to where they found the case, hoping to find some clues about who it belongs to.
Meanwhile, the musicians realize they have left behind their guitar case and make their way back to Mayberry to retrieve it. When they arrive, they see all of the commotion in town and begin to worry that they'll never see their money again.
As Andy and Barney search for clues, they discover that the money belonged to the musicians and was the result of several years of hard work playing gigs and saving money. They also find evidence that the musicians had nothing to do with the recent bank robbery.
Relieved that they can return the money to its rightful owners, Andy and Barney set out to find the musicians. When they locate them at a nearby diner, they explain what happened and return the guitar case. The musicians are overjoyed to have their money back and grateful to Andy and Barney for their help.
In the end, the community comes together to celebrate the return of the money and the relief that the musicians had nothing to do with the bank robbery. As the musicians play their music once again in Mayberry, Andy and Barney reflect on the importance of honesty and doing the right thing, even in the face of temptation.
