The Addams Family is a classic American television sitcom that was first aired in the 1960s. The show centers around the Addams family, a wealthy and eccentric clan who live in a spooky mansion in the town of Westfield. The family consists of patriarch Gomez, his wife Morticia, their children Wednesday and Pugsley, Uncle Fester, Grandmama, and Lurch the butler.
Season 2 of The Addams Family has been filled with plenty of wacky hijinks and spooky shenanigans, and the 13th episode is no exception. In "Portrait of Gomez," the focus is squarely on Gomez, the Latin lover and doting father, as he becomes obsessed with a painting of his ancestor, Pancho Addams.
As the episode begins, Gomez is busy admiring the portrait of Pancho in the family's parlor. He proudly informs his family that Pancho was a great adventurer and swordfighter who fought for love and honor. Morticia, however, is less than impressed. She remarks that the painting is just a "silly old canvas" and wonders why Gomez is so fixated on it.
But Gomez cannot be dissuaded. He gazes at the portrait with awe, marveling at Pancho's courage and derring-do. Soon, he finds himself daydreaming about his ancestor's exploits and even attempts to emulate his swordfighting skills.
Morticia becomes increasingly concerned about Gomez's fixation on the portrait. She worries that he is neglecting his duties as a father and a husband, and urges him to snap out of his daydreams and focus on the present.
Meanwhile, Pugsley and Wednesday are busy trying to raise money for a school charity fund. They decide to put on a magic show, but their tricks go awry and their audience ends up fleeing in terror. Uncle Fester offers to help the kids by making a large donation to the charity fund, but Morticia suspects that he may be up to something.
As the episode progresses, Gomez's obsession with the portrait reaches new heights. He begins to see Pancho's likeness everywhere he goes, and even imagines himself swordfighting with his dashing ancestor. Morticia decides to take matters into her own hands and enlists the help of Grandmama to perform a séance in the hopes of exorcising Pancho's spirit from the portrait.
But things do not go as planned, and the séance ends up summoning the ghost of Pancho himself. The dashing swordsman materializes in the Addams' parlor, much to Gomez's delight. However, Morticia and the rest of the family are less than thrilled with the spectral visitor.
As the episode comes to a close, the Addams family must find a way to deal with Pancho's ghostly presence and put an end to Gomez's obsession with the portrait. Will they be able to banish the ghost back to the afterlife? Will Gomez finally snap out of his daydreams and focus on his family? Tune in to "Portrait of Gomez" to find out!
