The show The 4400 is a science fiction series that follows the lives of a group of 4,400 people who mysteriously disappeared over several decades and suddenly reappear one day all at once. In season 3, episode 2 titled The New World (2), the story picks up where the previous episode left off.
The episode's opening moments take us back in time to the year 1951 where we witness a strange encounter between two soldiers and an unidentified flying object. Fast forward to present day, we see Tom and Diana investigating the disappearance of Shawn, a 4400, who has been taken hostage by unknown individuals. Meanwhile, Maia visits Promise City to seek help from a new prophet, Kevin Eyres. While in Promise City, Maia and Diana start to question Kevin's claims of divine intervention. They are particularly interested in his ability to heal people with his touch.
Back at the NTAC, Tom and Diana are trying to find out who is responsible for Shawn's abduction. They discover the kidnapper is none other than a 4400 who can control people's minds. The twist is, the abductor has no memory of his actions, which makes things even more complicated. As the investigation continues, Tom and Diana are approached by a secret organization that claims it wants to help them find the responsible parties. However, the organization's true intentions are still unknown.
As the episode progresses, we see the return of the character Isabelle, who had previously disappeared. Her reappearance sets off a chain of events that places her at odds with other 4400s. Meanwhile, Diana and her daughter Maia, continue to investigate Kevin's claims, which leads them to discover a shocking truth about his origins. This revelation puts Maia's life in peril, and Diana has to make some tough decisions to ensure her daughter's safety.
Throughout the episode, the audience is treated to stunning visual effects that perfectly complement the high stakes action taking place onscreen. The New World (2) is an intense and emotionally charged episode that will keep viewers on the edges of their seats. New and returning characters bring tension and intrigue to the plot, which promises to have long-lasting consequences for the rest of the season.
