After the destruction of the City of Light, Clarke, Bellamy, and Octavia return to their remaining people who are currently taking refuge in the remains of Arkadia. The season 4 opener, titled "Echoes", picks up right where we left off at the end of season 3. The episode starts with the group trying to come to terms with the events of the previous season and the defeat of ALIE. However, their relief is short-lived when they realize that their problems are far from over.
The season introduces a new threat - radiation. The nuclear reactors that powered the Arkadia and the elite bunker are failing, and the nuclear power plants around the world are about to melt down. Clarke and the others are faced with the daunting task of finding a way to save themselves and their people before it's too late.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the planet, Raven and Abby are struggling to find a way to control the radiation levels on the Arkadians. They are forced to work together despite their rocky relationship and past disagreements, and it is not long before they realize that their work may be more challenging than they thought.
As the group grapples with the new danger, they are also faced with the responsibility of leading their people. Octavia and Kane are both struggling to find their place in the new world and navigate the power dynamic in the group. Clarke, on the other hand, is trying to come to terms with her own role as a leader and the decisions she has made in the past.
The need for alliances between groups becomes even more pronounced as the situation becomes more dire. The introduction of a new group, led by a character named Roan, leads to some tense moments and uneasy alliances. Roan is tasked with finding a way to secure his own people's survival, and his approach can be ruthless.
The season also promises a deep dive into the characters' pasts as they continue to make difficult choices in the present. While it explores the danger of radiation and the characters' struggles for power and alliances, the theme that runs throughout the episode is that of change. As the world is changing, so too are the characters who must adapt in order to survive.
The season 4 premiere of The 100 brings all of the grit and intensity that fans have come to expect from the show. It sets the stage for what promises to be an action-packed and emotional season, while setting the stakes even higher for our beloved characters. The writing and acting continue to be top-notch, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats and eagerly anticipating the next episode.
