What Is and What Should Never Be (1) (a.k.a. Kitty's Pregnant) is the third episode of the fifth season of the popular sitcom That 70's Show. The episode revolves around Kitty, who believes she may be pregnant and struggles with the decision of whether or not to tell Red.
As the episode begins, the gang is gathered in the basement discussing their weekend plans. Hyde and Fez plan on throwing a keg party, while Kelso and Jackie are eager to spend some alone time together. Meanwhile, Eric and Donna are excited about their plans to attend a Led Zeppelin concert in Chicago. However, their plans are quickly derailed when Eric receives a phone call from Kitty, who asks him to come home right away.
Upon arriving home, Eric discovers that Kitty has taken a pregnancy test and believes she may be pregnant. Kitty is clearly worried about how Red will react to the news, and Eric tries his best to support her. However, his attempts to comfort his mother only seem to make things worse, and she becomes increasingly upset.
With Kitty's mood worsening by the minute, Eric decides to take matters into his own hands and tells Red about Kitty's potential pregnancy. As expected, Red is initially angry and overwhelmed, but ultimately puts aside his gruff exterior and shows Kitty the love and support she needs in this difficult time.
Meanwhile, the rest of the gang tries to navigate their own dramas. Kelso and Jackie struggle to find a place to be alone, while Fez and Hyde's keg party turns out to be a bust. Eric and Donna's plans to attend the Led Zeppelin concert also fall through, leading to a heartfelt moment between the two as they try to console each other.
Overall, What Is and What Should Never Be (1) (a.k.a. Kitty's Pregnant) is a touching episode that showcases the strength of the Forman family in the face of adversity. Though the gang's plans may not have worked out as expected, they all come together to support Kitty during this challenging time.
