In the twelfth episode of Texas Metal season 3, titled "5500 Lifted, Texas Edition," the crew at Ekstensive Metal Works takes on the challenge of customizing a Dodge Ram 5500. The client is a Texas native and wants the truck to represent his love for his home state.
At the beginning of the episode, we see raw footage of the truck arriving at the shop, and the crew is excited to get started. The host, Bill Carlton, introduces the client, who explains his vision for the truck. He wants the truck to have a lifted suspension, larger wheels, and a unique paint job that honors the state of Texas.
The crew gets to work on the truck, first creating the lifted suspension. They remove the stock suspension and install new custom parts, including shocks and lift blocks. With the suspension in place, the crew moves on to the wheels. They decide to go with 24-inch custom wheels with a bullet-style lip.
Next, the team works on the paint job. They start by removing the existing paint and sanding the entire body down to the metal. The client had specified that he wanted a Texas flag painted on the hood of the truck, so the crew gets to work on that. They use stencils and airbrush techniques to create a highly-detailed Texas flag on the hood. They also use a two-tone paint job, with the bottom half of the truck painted in a metallic silver and the top half painted in red.
As the crew works on the truck, we get to see some of their challenges. For example, the crew has to create a custom exhaust system that is compatible with the new suspension and wheels. They also have to create a custom front bumper that is both functional and stylish.
Throughout the episode, we see the crew bantering and joking with each other, but we also see their dedication to the craft of customizing cars. At one point, Bill Carlton comments that he has been working on cars for over 30 years, but he still feels like he learns something new with every project.
As the project comes to a close, we see the finished product: a stunning Dodge Ram 5500 with a Texas flag on the hood, standing tall on massive 24-inch wheels. The client is thrilled with the work, and we hear him say that he feels like the truck represents everything he loves about his home state.
Overall, Texas Metal season 3 episode 12 is a must-watch for fans of custom car shows. The episode showcases the incredible talent and dedication of the Ekstensive Metal Works crew, and it's inspiring to see their passion for this craft. And of course, the beautiful finished product, a one-of-a-kind Texas-themed Dodge Ram 5500, is a sight to behold.
