Tenchi In Tokyo season 1 episode 2 titled "Match Making!" follows the journey of Tenchi Masaki, a young man who moves to Tokyo for college, leaving behind his home and the women in his life. In this episode, Tenchi's friends, Sakuya Kumashiro and Kiyone Makibi, set out to identify his ideal partner and persuade him to go out on a date.
The episode begins with Tenchi's friends discussing his love life and how he has yet to find a girlfriend in Tokyo. Sakuya suggests that they conduct an experiment in which they'll analyze Tenchi's likes and try to determine the type of girl he likes. Kiyone is wary of the idea but agrees to help.
As they set out to classify Tenchi's type, they realize that he has a very different taste than they expected. They go to different places and introduce Tenchi to different girls in the hope of gauging his preferences. Tenchi is cordial to everyone, but he doesn't seem to click with any of the girls yet.
Meanwhile, Ayeka and Ryoko, the women who are after Tenchi's heart, start to get suspicious and want to know what Tenchi's friends are up to. They even hire a detective to spy on Tenchi and gather information. However, their attempts are futile as Tenchi's friends are one step ahead and manage to stay one step ahead of them.
After their attempts at finding Tenchi's ideal partner don't work out, Sakuya and Kiyone decide to go the traditional route and set up a blind date for him. Tenchi agrees albeit somewhat hesitantly, and the date is planned for the next day.
The episode concludes with the girls preparing Tenchi for the date and imparting some handy dating tips. Tenchi's nerves are palpable as he dresses up for the occasion, and his friends try to calm him down. The episode ends with Tenchi saying goodbye to his friends on his way to the restaurant to meet his date.
Tenchi In Tokyo season 1 episode 2 is a light-hearted and enjoyable episode as we see Tenchi's friends try to play matchmaker and fail miserably. The girls' attempts at setting Tenchi up with different girls are humorous and showcase their friendship. The episode is also notable for the spotlight on Tenchi's friends, Sakuya and Kiyone, who weren't prominent characters in the previous series. Overall, the episode is engaging and offers a feel-good experience without any major drama or action.
