The episode opens with Sydney preparing for her birthday party, which she has been planning for months. She has invited all of her friends and even some family members, including her grandmother, to the party. However, as the day approaches, Sydney starts to feel anxious about turning 13 and all of the changes that come with it.
Meanwhile, Max is also dealing with some changes of his own. He has started to develop feelings for his friend Ainsley and doesn't know how to tell her. He confides in Leo, who tries to help him figure out how to tell Ainsley how he feels.
As the party gets underway, Sydney starts to feel overwhelmed by all of the attention and gifts. She starts to act out and becomes rude to her friends and family. Her mom, who understands how difficult it can be to turn 13, tries to help her daughter through this tough time.
Throughout the episode, there are flashbacks to when Sydney's mom, also named Sydney, turned 13 and went through similar struggles. She recalls how difficult it was for her back then and tries to offer advice and support to her daughter in the present.
As the party goes on, Sydney begins to feel better and starts to enjoy herself. Her friends and family rally around her and show her how much they care. Max also confesses his feelings to Ainsley, who returns them, and the two share a sweet moment.
In the end, Sydney realizes that growing up isn't as scary as she thought it would be and that she has a lot of people in her life who love and support her. The episode ends with Sydney blowing out her candles and making a wish for the future.
