Ep 2. The Invisible Man

In this week's episode of Svengoolie season 12, the titular character presents the classic horror film The Invisible Man. Based on H.G. Wells' novel of the same name, this 1933 film tells the story of Dr. Jack Griffin, a scientist who has found a way to make himself invisible.

As the film opens, we see Griffin arriving at the small town of Iping, covered from head to toe in bandages and wearing dark glasses to shield his eyes. He takes a room at the local inn and quickly becomes the talk of the town, with rumors spreading about his mysterious condition. Soon, he becomes increasingly erratic and violent, with his invisible presence causing chaos and mayhem everywhere he goes.

The film is a tour-de-force of special effects, particularly for its time. The invisible man is portrayed by actor Claude Rains, who gives a gripping performance despite being mostly hidden from view. The film also features impressive scenes of objects moving seemingly of their own accord, as the invisible man wreaks havoc around him.

As always, Svengoolie brings his unique brand of humor and commentary to the film, providing interesting tidbits about the cast and crew and poking fun at some of the more dated aspects of the film. And while the film may seem tame by today's standards, it is still an impressive piece of filmmaking and a must-see for fans of classic horror.
