At the start of the episode, Yamato is devastated to learn that Arima has beaten his personal record in the high jump. Despite his initial shock, Yamato quickly resolves to work even harder in order to beat Arima at the upcoming meet. However, as he begins training with Suzuka, he becomes increasingly frustrated with her tough coaching style.
Meanwhile, tensions between Yamato and Arima continue to escalate. Arima begins to act aggressively towards Yamato, mocking him at every opportunity and even stealing his towel during practice. Despite Suzuka's attempts to calm him down, Yamato can't help but feel unfairly targeted by Arima's bullying.
As the track meet draws closer, both Yamato and Arima continue to push themselves to their limits. However, on the day of the meet, Yamato is dealt a devastating blow when he realizes that Arima has beaten his personal record yet again. Feeling defeated and demoralized, Yamato struggles to regain his confidence in time for his own events.
Despite all of the pressure and tension between the two boys, the track meet ultimately culminates in a surprising moment of camaraderie. After Yamato takes a hard fall during the high jump, it is Arima who comes to his aid, helping him to get back on his feet. In that moment, Yamato realizes that their rivalry had become toxic and that, ultimately, they were both just trying to be the best version of themselves.
