Ep 5. The Conundrum

An acrobatics stage play at the festival narrates a story of revenge by the Kaalis to destroy their demon. Sakkarai resolves to find justice for the young women in the prison. He revisits Chellappa's cottage and has a moment of epiphany - he discovers a secret tunnel the women would have used to get in and out of the cottage. With fresh forensic analysis, he visualizes the probable sequence of events on the fateful night. There is still one unanswered question - how was the cupboard in which Muthu was found locked from the outside. Sakkarai decides to overlook this and proceed. Sakkarai meets Malathy to enquire about the cottage. Fernandez, the fishing community head, spots Dhamu and brings him to Sakkarai. Sakkarai presses Dhamu, asking why he lit the funeral pyre. After Sakkarai's badgering and intimidation, Dhamu blurts out that he is Chellappa's illegitimate son. Malathy's world shatters and Sakkarai's image of Chellappa crumbles further.
