In the sixth episode of Superstore season 3, titled "Health Fund," the employees of Cloud 9 are faced with a healthcare crisis. As the store's healthcare plan is about to expire, the employees must come up with a way to raise enough money to provide themselves with a new plan.
The episode starts with Jonah (Ben Feldman) and Amy (America Ferrera) discussing the upcoming expiration of the healthcare plan. They are at a loss as to how they will be able to afford a new plan, given the low wages they receive working at Cloud 9. Dina (Lauren Ash) suggests that they start a health fund, and the rest of the employees quickly jump on board.
The employees begin to contribute to the fund, but they soon find that it is not enough to cover the cost of a new plan. They decide to hold a fundraiser, but disagreements over the type of fundraiser quickly arise. Some employees, such as Cheyenne (Nichole Bloom) and Mateo (Nico Santos), want to hold a bake sale, while others, such as Glenn (Mark McKinney) and Sandra (Kaliko Kauahi), want to hold a car wash.
As the employees argue over the fundraiser, Glenn receives a visit from his wife Jerusha (Kerri Kenney). Jerusha, who is pregnant, has been put on bed rest and orders Glenn to take on all of her household duties. Glenn quickly becomes overwhelmed with the added responsibility and begins to make mistakes at work.
Meanwhile, Amy and Jonah decide to take a different approach to the fundraiser. They approach Cloud 9's corporate headquarters and ask for a donation to the health fund. The corporate representative, Kelly (Kelly Stables), initially refuses, but Jonah is able to convince her to donate a large sum of money.
Just as things are looking up for the employees, disaster strikes. As they are setting up for the car wash, a group of protesters arrive and start disrupting the event. The protesters are upset with Cloud 9 for using unethically sourced palm oil in their products. The employees are at a loss as to how to deal with the protesters, but Amy comes up with a plan to win them over.
Overall, "Health Fund" is a timely episode that addresses the pressing issue of healthcare in a humorous and enjoyable way. The characters are well-written and relatable, and the situations they find themselves in are both funny and thought-provoking. The episode is a great example of how Superstore uses comedy to tackle serious issues, and will leave viewers both entertained and informed.
