Kara is back in action as Supergirl in the thrilling episode "Man of Steel". In this episode, the audience gets to see a dark and twisted backstory for one of DC's biggest heroes, Superman. It turns out that Superman's kryptonian father, Jor-El, wasn't exactly the hero we always thought he was.
Throughout the episode, we see Kara attempt to help James Olsen navigate his newfound vigilante persona, "Guardian". In doing so, she uncovers a dangerous plot that leads her to investigate the Metropolis branch of L-Corp. While there, she's reunited with her sister, Alex, who is on a mission of her own.
In the midst of all this, National City is preparing for the unveiling of a statue of Superman, which is a source of pride for all of the citizens. However, there is a group of protestors who are rallying against Superman, claiming that he's not the hero we all believe him to be. The leader of the protest is Ben Lockwood, who we later learn has a personal vendetta against the Kryptonian hero.
As Kara proceeds with her investigation of L-Corp, she discovers that they have been working on developing a weapon of mass destruction. She confronts Lena Luthor, who insists that the weapon is only meant to be a deterrent against alien threats. Kara doesn't believe her and decides to take matters into her own hands.
Meanwhile, James is dealing with his own set of challenges as Guardian. He's struggling to maintain his cover, especially when he's asked to help the protestors who are hoping to take Superman down. This leads to a confrontation with Ben Lockwood and his team, which results in James being unmasked as Guardian. As a result, he's forced to confront his own fears and the consequences of his actions.
The episode comes to a head when the statue of Superman is revealed. Ben Lockwood and his team have planted a bomb inside it, and it's set to go off at the statue's unveiling. Supergirl and Guardian race to stop the bomb from detonating, all while dealing with the protestors who are trying to stop them.
In the end, we learn the truth about Jor-El's actions on Krypton, which sheds new light on Superman's abilities and his motivations. We also see Kara struggle to maintain her own moral code, even when it means going against her friends and loved ones. This episode is action-packed and full of heart, making it a must-see for any Supergirl fan.
