In Super Why! season 2 episode 5, titled "The Ant and the Grasshopper," the Super Readers are transported into the classic fable of the same name. The episode begins with Whyatt and his friends at a picnic, but they quickly learn that ants have taken over their food. When Whyatt expresses his frustration at the ants, Red suggests they use their reading powers to enter the story of "The Ant and the Grasshopper" and learn about the importance of planning ahead and being responsible.

Once inside the story, the Super Readers meet the ant who is hard at work gathering food for the winter. The ant explains that she knows it's important to plan ahead and work hard, but her neighbor, the grasshopper, prefers to play and have fun all day. The grasshopper doesn't see the value in working hard and planning for the future. When the winter arrives, the ant is prepared with plenty of food while the grasshopper is left hungry and regretful for not listening to the ant's advice.

As the Super Readers explore the story, they encounter obstacles that they must help the characters overcome. For example, the grasshopper needs help finding food to survive the winter. The Super Readers use their reading powers to identify words that rhyme with "leaf" which helps them locate a stash of food. In another instance, the ant needs assistance carrying a heavy load of food. The Super Readers read a sentence that contains the word "strong" which gives them the power to become strong enough to lift the food for the ant.

Throughout the episode, the Super Readers learn important lessons about the value of hard work, responsibility, and planning ahead. They discuss the importance of taking care of oneself and how those actions can positively impact others. By the end of the episode, the Super Readers return to the present day with a newfound appreciation for the work that goes into preparing for the future.

In addition to the central story, "The Ant and the Grasshopper" episode also includes two additional mini stories. The first is a retelling of the nursery rhyme "Little Miss Muffet," where the Super Readers learn about fear and how to overcome it. The second is a retelling of "The Lion and the Mouse," where the Super Readers learn the importance of helping others.

Overall, "The Ant and the Grasshopper" episode of Super Why! encourages children to think critically about the consequences of their actions and how they impact themselves and those around them. The episode is filled with engaging storytelling and valuable life lessons that will resonate with viewers of all ages.
