Stuck in the Waterpark: The Movie is the first episode of season 3 of Stuck in the Middle, a family sitcom that premiered on Disney Channel in 2016. The show follows the Diaz family, a middle-class Latino-American family of seven, living in suburban Massachusetts. The protagonist is Harley Diaz (Jenna Ortega), the middle child of five and an inventor, who narrates the events of each episode.
The episode starts with the Diaz family going to the waterpark for a day of fun and relaxation. But things quickly go awry when they realize that the park is closing early due to a faulty water pump. The family decides to stay overnight in the park, since they were given complimentary rooms, and that's when chaos and hilarity ensue. Harley and her siblings agree to make a movie about their adventure in the waterpark and try to capture the most exciting and outrageous moments.
The movie within the episode is interspersed with flashbacks and interviews with the Diaz family members, who reflect on what they learned from each other during this 24-hour staycation. Harley, as usual, takes charge and tries to organize the filming of the movie, coming up with creative ways to shoot the most thrilling scenes. Her energy and enthusiasm, however, exhaust her siblings who would rather sit back and relax. Her desire to control the movie also causes tension with her older sister Rachel (Ronni Hawk), who feels left out of Harley's plans.
Meanwhile, their parents, Suzy and Tom Diaz (Cerina Vincent and Joe Nieves), provide comic relief with their bickering and silly antics. They compete to see who can win a stuffed animal for the kids, but end up getting into an argument and vandalizing a carnival game. Tom, who is afraid of water, also faces his fears and tries to go down a water slide, only to get stuck halfway through.
The other three Diaz siblings, Ethan (Isaak Presley), Daphne (Ariana Greenblatt), and Georgie (Kayla Maisonet), also have their own individual experiences in the waterpark. Ethan meets a girl who works there and tries to impress her, but ends up embarrassing himself. Daphne goes on a wild ride with Rachel and gets her hair stuck in a fan, while Georgie tries to find a way to sneak out of the park and go to a concert.
Overall, Stuck in the Waterpark: The Movie is a fun and engaging episode that highlights the strengths and weaknesses of each Diaz family member. It touches on themes of sibling rivalry, independence, trust, and the importance of making memories as a family. The high-energy and fast-paced movie segments are well-executed and capture the excitement of a day at the waterpark. The episode also sets up some potential storylines for the rest of the season, such as Rachel's possible romance with an old friend, and Harley's struggle with finding a new lab space after hers gets destroyed.
