He makes up his mind to connect with her and does so by showing up in her school, much to her and her mother's displeasure. While Charlotte's mother, Debbie, is furious at Vernon, Charlotte, on the other hand, is overjoyed at the possibility of building a relationship with her long-lost father.

While visiting his old home, Vernon discovers that his ex-girlfriend has turned their former trailer home into a church, and he feels remorseful for the mess he left behind. He offers to help the congregation get a new home, to which they are grateful. However, when they realize the kind of person Vernon is, the plan backfires.

To make amends and reconnect with his new-found daughter, Vernon offers to teach Charlotte how to drive. The two have a bonding moment as they drive around the countryside. They start to get to know each other, and eventually, Charlotte confesses to Vernon that she is pregnant, and Vernon is genuinely taken aback. The episode ends with Vernon, on the verge of an emotional breakdown, wondering how he can become a good grandfather when he has been a lousy father.

Overall, "Pilot" sets the stage for what promises to be an exciting and hilarious journey. The show's creators have done an excellent job of setting the tone, introducing the characters, and providing a glimpse into Vernon's past and potential future. As the episode progresses, we see that Vernon wants to make things right, and we start rooting for him to succeed.
