






In State Plate with Taylor Hicks, viewers take a culinary journey across the United States as former American Idol winner, Taylor Hicks, uncovers the unique foods and traditions of each state. In season 1, episode 11, the focus is on the beautiful state of Colorado.
Taylor begins his journey in the vibrant city of Denver, where he meets up with local chef and restaurateur Troy Guard. They tour the city's famous Union Station and sample some of the unique fare served up by the many food vendors. From classic pizza to an imaginative take on a lobster roll, Troy shows Taylor the diverse and delicious food Denver has to offer.
Next, Taylor travels to the town of Aspen, where he meets up with chef and longtime resident Chris Lanter. Chris takes Taylor on a hike through the stunning Maroon Bells, and along the way, they forage for wild mushrooms and herbs that Chris incorporates into his dishes back at his restaurant, Cache Cache. Taylor samples the restaurant's famous bone-in ribeye, and the two discuss the importance of using locally sourced ingredients.
In the small town of Palmer Lake, Taylor meets up with Karen Connelly, whose family has been operating the popular restaurant and bakery, The Speedtrap, for over 130 years. Karen shows Taylor how to make her family's famous homemade cinnamon rolls, and they sample some of the restaurant's classic American comfort dishes, such as chicken fried steak and biscuits and gravy.
Continuing along his culinary journey, Taylor heads to the San Luis Valley, where he meets up with farmer Greg Smith. Greg shows Taylor his sustainable farming practices and the unique crops he grows, like quinoa and heirloom tomatoes. Taylor even gets a lesson in how to milk a goat and tries his hand at making goat cheese.
Finally, Taylor arrives in the town of Manitou Springs, where he meets up with the proprietor of Patsy's Candies, Jeff Schuster. Jeff shows Taylor how his family has been making handmade chocolates and other candies for over 100 years, and Taylor gets a lesson in making chocolate-covered cherries.
Throughout the episode, Taylor explores the culture and flavors of Colorado, highlighting the diversity and passion of the people who make the state's cuisine unique. Viewers will be inspired to try some of the dishes featured in the episode or plan a trip to explore the state's culinary offerings themselves.
