State of Affairs is an American political drama television series that premiered on NBC on November 17, 2014. The series is created by Joe Carnahan and stars Katherine Heigl, Alfre Woodard, Adam Kaufman, Sheila Vand, Cliff Chamberlain, Tommy Savas, and David Harbour. The show follows Charlie Tucker (Heigl), a CIA analyst, who works her way up to become the President's daily briefer while dealing with the heartbreak of losing her fiancé, a beloved soldier killed in action.

The series takes place in Washington, D.C., and follows the intense and high-stakes world of U.S. intelligence gathering and security. At the heart of the show is Charlie Tucker, who is tasked with preparing the President's daily briefing on security threats, which gives her access to the highest levels of intelligence in the country. She is forced to navigate a complex web of politics, personal relationships, and global events to keep America safe.

Charlie's mentor and boss is President Constance Payton (Woodard), a tough, intelligent, and unapologetic leader who straddles the line between politics and espionage. As the first African American woman to hold the highest office in the land, she faces immense pressure from all sides and relies heavily on Charlie's expertise and guidance.

Meanwhile, Charlie's personal life is complicated by the loss of her fiancé Aaron (Kaufman), a soldier killed in a terrorist attack. She struggles to balance the demands of her job with the grief and trauma of losing the love of her life. She finds solace in her friendship with Maureen (Vand), another CIA analyst who shares her passion for the job and her feelings of loss and isolation.

As the series progresses, Charlie and her team of analysts and operatives uncover a web of conspiracies and threats that put the entire country in danger. They must race against the clock to gather intelligence, prevent attacks, and neutralize threats before they become reality. Along the way, they grapple with personal demons, romantic entanglements, and conflicting loyalties that threaten to undermine their mission and tear the team apart.

State of Affairs offers a gripping and realistic portrayal of U.S. intelligence gathering and security, with a strong emphasis on character development and interpersonal relationships. The show tackles complex issues such as political corruption, terrorism, and PTSD with sensitivity and nuance, while also delivering heart-pounding action and suspense. It is a must-watch for fans of political thrillers and espionage dramas.
