Joe Spencer is just an ordinary guy, with an ordinary job and an ordinary life. He runs a small business selling used helmets, and lives in a trailer park with his wife and son. But he has a secret obsession that he's been keeping hidden from everyone - he's convinced that he's been abducted by aliens.
One day, Joe decides to go to a psychiatrist to talk about his experiences. But when he starts describing how he was beamed up onto a spaceship and taken to another planet, he realizes that he's not alone in his delusions. His therapist, Dr. Coombs, suddenly starts to nod along in agreement, and Joe realizes that she believes every word he's saying.
It quickly becomes apparent that Dr. Coombs is not who she seems to be. She's actually a Goa'uld posing as a psychiatrist, using Joe's memories of SG-1's previous missions to track them down and learn their weaknesses. She's been manipulating Joe for weeks, feeding him information and making him believe that he's the only one who can save the world from an impending attack.
Joe's story is shown through a series of flashbacks, as he reminisces about his conversations with Dr. Coombs. He recounts his memories of SG-1's encounters with the Goa'uld, explaining how he was able to use his knowledge to help the team on multiple occasions.
As the flashbacks continue, we see that Joe's obsession has taken over his life. He's spent thousands of dollars on collectors' items related to SG-1, and has even built a replica of the Stargate in his basement. But despite his fixation, his relationship with his family is strained, and he struggles to connect with his son.
Meanwhile, back at the SGC, SG-1 is preparing for their next mission. Teal'c is investigating a planet that is rumored to be inhabited by a powerful Goa'uld, while Carter and Daniel are working on a new weapon to use against them. O'Neill, however, is distracted by the fact that he's been called in to testify in a lawsuit against someone who claims to have been a witness to one of his secret missions.
As the trial unfolds, it becomes clear that the plaintiff is none other than Joe Spencer. He's suing the Air Force for not protecting him during an alien abduction, claiming that he suffered extreme psychological trauma as a result. The courtroom scenes are interspersed with Joe's flashbacks, as the audience sees just how deeply he's been affected by his experiences.
In the end, it's revealed that Dr. Coombs has been using Joe to lure SG-1 into a trap. She's captured Teal'c and is holding him hostage, using him as bait to lure the rest of the team to her location. Joe realizes that he's been duped, and joins forces with SG-1 to launch a rescue mission.
The team rushes to the planet where Teal'c is being held, and engages in a fierce battle with Dr. Coombs and her Jaffa soldiers. Despite being wildly outmatched, SG-1 manages to defeat their foes and escape with Teal'c. As they return to Earth, Joe is left to ponder the reality of his experiences.
The episode ends with Joe back in his trailer, surrounded by his SG-1 memorabilia. As he reflects on the events that have unfolded, he realizes that his obsession with aliens has taken a toll on his family and his mental health. He decides to start selling off his collection, and tries to reconnect with his son. In the final scene, we see Joe enjoying a barbecue with his family, happy to be back to his ordinary life.
