In Stargate SG1 season 7 episode 5, titled "Revisions," SG-1 arrives on a planet where the inhabitants live inside a domed city due to the harsh, deadly environment beyond. They quickly discover that the city's power source, a giant tower, is on the verge of collapse and that the residents' memories have been altered, making them forget the outside world and erasing any knowledge of a time before the current generation. SG-1 works to uncover the truth behind the tower's malfunction and why the residents have been made to forget their past.
Despite their initial excitement at the promise of exploring a new world, the team finds themselves greeted by a bleak, dystopian cityscape overrun by crime and poverty. The residents of the village, dressed in ragged clothes and scavenging for meager supplies, are on the brink of starvation due to the tower's collapse and the sudden revelation of a barren land outside the dome walls. The only hope for survival is a progressive new energy source that the locals desperately need.
As SG-1 explores the city and gets to know the inhabitants, they realize that something is seriously amiss. The villagers seem naive and content to live within the boundaries of their dome, unaware of the struggles beyond and blindly following the orders of the city's seemingly benevolent Council of Elders. But when SG-1 discovers evidence that the villagers may have once lived in the larger world outside the city, all their assumptions about the situation are challenged.
As the team navigates the city's politics and uncovers the mystery of the tower failure, they realize that the truth of the village's past is being manipulated by a powerful force lurking just out of sight. Before they can save the villagers and prevent the rise of a new oppressive order, SG-1 must work together to uncover the secrets of this strange, insular society and navigate the politics that keep it in control.
In addition to the series' dynamic action and locations, "Revisions" explores the impact of memory and the ways our perception of the past shapes our understanding of the present. By showing what happens when an entire community is stripped of their history, the episode asks powerful questions about the nature of memory, trauma, and the stories we tell ourselves about who we are and where we came from. Through SG-1's quest to uncover the truth and free the villagers from the oppression of their history, "Revisions" offers a window into a world that is both vividly imaginative and profoundly human.
