While many things have changed since Stargate SG-1 began in 1997, one constant has been the need for Earth to protect itself from hostile alien races. In the penultimate episode of season seven, "Lost City: Part 1," SG-1 finally finds something that could give them a fighting chance against any enemy: the lost city of the Ancients.
After discovering a map in Daniel's grandfather's journals, SG-1 is finally convinced that the city of the Ancients really exists and sets out to find it. But they aren't the only ones interested in this fabled city. The Goa'uld System Lord Anubis is also searching for it, and he has a head start.
Meanwhile, betrayal and treachery are on the horizon as a trusted member of the team is seemingly working with the Goa'uld. With everything on the line, SG-1 must race to find the lost city before Anubis can harness its power for his own evil plans.
As always, the action is fast-paced and intense, with several thrilling space battles and plenty of close-quarters combat. But "Lost City: Part 1" also has some quieter moments, allowing for some character development and reflection.
One of the most intriguing aspects of this episode is the introduction of the Antarctic Stargate, which differs from the gate that SG-1 has been using throughout the series. Its unique design and function add a new layer of mystery and possibility to the show's universe.
Overall, "Lost City: Part 1" is an excellent episode that's essential viewing for any Stargate SG-1 fan. With major developments in the storyline and fascinating new elements added to the mythology, it's a thrilling and satisfying installment that sets the stage for the season finale.
