SG-1 travels to a planet where they discover a group of genetically advanced humans, known as the Enkarans, living in hiding from the Goa'uld. They are led by a woman named Ke'ra, who is also a former flame of Daniel Jackson. Ke'ra invites the team to stay as her guests, and they soon learn that the Goa'uld have been hunting them.
Daniel becomes suspicious of Ke'ra after she refuses to explain her sudden appearance on the planet and her people's advanced abilities. He believes that there must be a hidden agenda, and his suspicions are confirmed when he discovers that Ke'ra is actually the daughter of a Goa'uld, and has been lying to them all along.
Meanwhile, the Enkarans reveal that they are dying out due to a genetic defect, and they hope to use an ancient machine to repair their DNA. The machine requires a blood sacrifice, and Ke'ra offers herself to try and save her people.
The team must then work together to protect the Enkarans from the attacking Goa'uld and help them fulfill their quest for survival. Daniel must also confront his feelings for Ke'ra, who he still cares about despite her betrayal.
In the end, the Enkarans are able to use the machine successfully, and the team helps them find a new home planet where they can live in peace. The episode ends on a bittersweet note as Daniel says goodbye to Ke'ra, knowing that they can never be together.
