SG-1 finds themselves on a planet with a civilization that is based on ancient Egypt, and it turns out that the team's arrival there was actually part of a prophecy. While exploring the planet, they meet a woman named Ma'chello who claims to be a teacher who wants to help them understand the prophecy. However, when they realize that Ma'chello is actually an ancient and very advanced scientist, they start to suspect that he may be trying to use them for his own purposes.
As SG-1 learns more about the prophecy, they discover that it foretells the arrival of a group of strangers who will help the people of this planet defeat their enemies, the Goa'uld. The team struggles with how to fulfill their part of the prophecy without interfering with the people's culture or technology, but they eventually decide to help the people build a weapon that will defend them against the Goa'uld.
Meanwhile, Ma'chello is revealed to have ulterior motives. He has been seeking a way to transfer his consciousness into a new body in order to avoid death, and he believes that SG-1's arrival on the planet is the key to making this happen. He creates a device that he claims will help SG-1 build the weapon, but it is really designed to transfer his consciousness into one of their bodies.
As the team works on the weapon, they become increasingly suspicious of Ma'chello's intentions. Eventually, his plan is revealed and SG-1 must find a way to stop him before he can accomplish his goal. In the end, they are able to defeat Ma'chello and fulfill their part of the prophecy, leaving the people of the planet with a new weapon to defend themselves against the Goa'uld.
Overall, "Prophecy" is an exciting episode that explores themes of prophecy, destiny, and the ethics of interfering with other cultures. SG-1's struggle to reconcile their mission with the prophecy they find themselves embroiled in leads to some exciting moments and thought-provoking questions. Meanwhile, Ma'chello's conflict with SG-1 creates a tense and exciting plotline that keeps the episode engaging from start to finish.
