SG-1 visit a planet where they find humans are infected by an Ori virus, originated from the galaxy visited by Odyssey. The people have exhausted their resources for a cure and have turned to a group of Jaffa who have adapted to life without a symbiote for medical salvation. The team try to find information on a cure but are rebuffed by the Jaffa who see them as an enemy. However, the team learns that the easiest way to acquire the cure is through a negotiation with Khonsu, the current leader of the Jaffa on the planet. Khonsu provides a vial of the cure for the SG-1 team which they will take back to Earth and use to analyze a countermeasure.
During their stay, the team discovers that the planet's inhabitants are scared of the Jaffa despite Khonsu being the planet's source of protection. The SG-1 team learns that Khonsu is a former Goa'uld whom Daniel had encountered before. After killing his Goa'uld, Khonsu dedicated himself to a life of medicine without his symbiote. Daniel manages to talk to Khonsu and learns that the Jaffa are under a constant threat from the Ori and the Prior on their planet. The threat explains their reluctance and distrust of the Tau'ri.
Frustrated at the slow progress they are making with the cure, Jonas and Carter venture outside the meeting area and find a group of Ori followers who believe the virus is a divine gift and shouldn't be cured. The team manages to save Jonas and Carter, but the incident reveals the severity of the situation, and the people's vulnerability to the Ori. Now under a ticking clock, SG-1 rush to develop an antidote.
With the clock ticking, SG-1 resolves to finding a cure. They realize that they could use the symbiotes from the planet's outbreak and a sample of the Ori virus they brought with them to create a cure. The solution is risky as it depends on killing a select number of infected humans to obtain enough symbiotes, which means they must act quickly before the rest succumb to the virus. The team realizes they must hurry before any more lives are lost.
SG-1 risk taking the symbiotes to Earth, as the only viable way to get the necessary amount needed to develop a cure. Meanwhile, on the planet, the Jaffa face their mortality from the virus and a grave threat from the Ori and their Prior. Upon their return, SG-1 uses their resources to develop a cure, but they fail to make enough. Determined, Dr. Daniel Jackson tries to negotiate with the Jaffa, but he fails to find a compromise with Khonsu.
As a last resort, Teal'c discovers a way the Jaffa could maintain their immune systems without the need of a symbiote. With renewed hope, SG-1 transmits the information to the planet and provides a solution that protects the Jaffa from further infections. The Jaffa gradually begin to accept the Tau'ri and allow the distribution of their cure to the infected. The SG-1 team realizes that sometimes the simplest of solutions can save the most people, and all they had to do was be willing to think outside the box. With the successful completion of their mission, SG-1 takes off in the Stargate for their next adventure of the season.
